Yoga Mom, Yoga Kid

Image
Get back to the yoga mat and bring your kids with you! Yoga pants! I love yoga pants, they're comfy and stain resistant but for a stay at home mom of a 2 ½ year old I was having a hard time using yoga pants for actual yoga.   Yoga wasn’t on my to-do list for a long time after I had my son.   When I did decide that it was time to get back to the mat I couldn’t find a way to work it into my schedule Before my son was born I practiced yoga almost every morning before work.   I had energy and a sense of accomplishment before I even left the house.   I found myself missing those benefits of yoga as well as the work out aspect of a yoga routine.   Since I love practicing yoga in the morning I tried to wake up before my 2 ½ year old.   That lasted all of one week.   More often than not I chose the temptation of going back to sleep over the benefits of yoga.   Then it hit me one day that the way to get my yoga back was to incorporate my son into my yoga practice.   He

Foam Books

When I was little I loved making books of my own stories and I have passed this love down to my son.   We have made many books from construction paper, they are fun but didn’t withstand the toddler test.   He likes to read books on his own like a big boy but the paper and stickers looked a little worse for the wear after a couple of intense reading sessions.   So this is my answer to the toddler book dilemma, foam books!   I used a combination of drawing and construction paper glued onto the pages.   I also used googly eyes and they have surprisingly passed the toddler test! Time: About an hour – We did half of it together and I finished it when he went to bed.   The finished project was a surprise the next morning. Cost : Under 10$ – All the materials for this craft can be found at a dollar store if you don’t already have them at home.   Material: 3 sheets of coloured crafters foam Construction paper Googly eyes 2 fasteners Pencil Coloured pens Glue Direc

So this is one of my just add stickers crafts.   Stickers are always a hit at our house, so it’s hard to go wrong when the majority of the activity is decorating with stickers.    Time: About 20 minutes Cost: Under $5.00 – depending on the stickers.  (On a trip to the dollar store I let my son pick out which stickers he wanted to use for this craft.) Material: Empty box Construction paper Stickers Glue stick Directions:        1.        Open the box by cutting off one side 2.        Glue the construction paper to the bottom and 3 sides 3.        Decorate with stickers.  This is the fun part where your kids can let their imaginations run wild. Now your Dinosaurs have a place to play!

Sesame Street Puppets

As with many toddlers my son is obsessed with Sesame Street characters.   Every time we sit down to do crafts he asks for Elmo or Cookie Monster.   Needless to say these were a big hit. This craft is just cutting and gluing.   I did the cutting and me son helped with the gluing and choosing the coloured paper we needed.   Time : About 10 minutes per character Cost : This is a very affordable craft using supplies that can be found in most craft rooms.   Material : Coloured construction paper Popsicle sticks Glue stick Scissors Directions : 1 – Head – Choose the coloured paper you need for that character and fold in half.   Cut half an oval shape leaving the folded side at the top. 2- Open the paper glue one side.   Put glue on about 2 inches of a popsicle stick and place on the glued side of the oval.   Refold the paper and press flat. 3- Faces -Cut out white circles of the eyes (I fold the white paper a number of times to get many circles of the
