Sesame Street Puppets

As with many toddlers my son is obsessed with Sesame Street characters.  Every time we sit down to do crafts he asks for Elmo or Cookie Monster.  Needless to say these were a big hit.

This craft is just cutting and gluing.  I did the cutting and me son helped with the gluing and choosing the coloured paper we needed.

Time: About 10 minutes per character

Cost: This is a very affordable craft using supplies that can be found in most craft rooms.

Material:

Coloured construction paper

Popsicle sticks

Glue stick

Scissors

Directions:

1 – Head – Choose the coloured paper you need for that character and fold in half.  Cut half an oval shape leaving the folded side at the top.

2- Open the paper glue one side.  Put glue on about 2 inches of a popsicle stick and place on the glued side of the oval.  Refold the paper and press flat.

3- Faces -Cut out white circles of the eyes (I fold the white paper a number of times to get many circles of the same size.) Cut small circles out of black paper for the pupils. Cut out half an oval shape of black or red paper for the mouth.  Glue all pieces to the head.

4- Details – Add the elements that make the characters stand out.  Make a cookie for Cookie Monster, an orange nose for Elmo, a furrowed brow for Oscar and anything else that will make them recognizable.

And it’s as easy as that, enjoy with your kids!
