DIY Superhero Posters

Image
Batman and Spider-Man and Superman oh my! There are superheroes are everywhere! We made these super hero logos out of foam sheets arranged them in poster frames for a fun homemade poster. Materials: Foam sheets Poster frames Scissors Glue (either glue stick or white glue) Cost: About $10.00 (for the frames, about $5.00 more for a pack of foam sheets) Time: This is a long one about 1 hour. I suggest cutting out the logos before you bring in the kids! Directions: For a reference find pictures of all the logos you want to make. Lay out the colours of foam sheets you need. Draw the out line of the logos (this is the long part) Cut out the logos. Glue the logos onto backgrounds (this part the kids can help with) Arrange the logos in the poster frames. Hang on the wall! Have fun!

Just Add Stickers Castle

Image
I've created a (crafting) monster! If my little one sees something on TV he wants to make it, this includes everything from costumes to food. If it looks too complicated for him he says Mama you can make that. It's very cute. One morning he saw on CBC a castle and he talked about it until we had time to make it that afternoon. Cost: Under $5.00 use recycled material Time: About 20 minutes Material: Empty boxes (I went through the recycling and found a Kleenex box and a granola bar box) Paper towel rolls (or construction paper rolled and glued) Stickers to decorate String for the draw bridge Directions: Undo the seams of the boxes and flip them inside out and glue the boxes back together. Cut turrets across the top of the smaller box and the paper towel rolls or the construction paper. Cut a door out of the bigger box.  Glue the smaller box on top of the bigger box. Glue both towers on top of the bigger box, on either side of the smaller box. T

Our Garden Rocks!

Image
Living in a condo I don't have much space for a garden. And even if I did I don't have the best track record with plants. If you don't have the time space or the green thumb required for a garden a big garden this project is for you! We set off to make markers for my tiny balcony herb garden and it grew from there, as any good project does! I was at Michael's the other day and picked up some of those cute chalk board style sticker labels but I put them back because I didn't think I had a use for them. While we were placing the rocks i was thinking that this would be the perfect time to use those labels but since i didn't have them i went with black paper, chalk and tape. I think it works just as well. Cost: About $10.00 (depending on the plants you use and if you have soil and planters) Time: About 30 minutes (with drying and planting) Material: Bag of river rocks Permanent markers Plant pots Soil Black construction paper Chalk Dir

My Mother, My Inspiration

Image
My mom has always been creative, if you have an idea she will be able to make it (or that's what my sister and I think and we take advantage!) These are some things that she has made for us over the years. Starting from the top left: a paper peicing picture to match my 1st couch, an embroidered picture for an anniversary present, a hope chest for my 21st birthday, bean bag cookies for the cookie monster cookie toss, mini oven mits for my little man and bobo bags that live in the freezer in case of little bumps and bruises. I owe my creativity to my mom. Happy Mother's Day!

Having Fun With Yoga

Image
In my search for yoga books for kids I found the  PedaYoga series. It's a series of books and games designed for use in schools, daycares and the home, to introduce yoga to children. The books are illustrated and use children and the PedaYoga mascot  Namaste a yoga practicing monkey to demonstrate the poses. For the parents/teachers the books explain the positive impact of yoga for children as well as techniques to teach yoga to children including not only good poses for children but also visualisation techniques. I haven't gotten to the visualisation with my little man yet but the games are a big hit. Our favourite yoga game is the yoga wheels. You chose one position per wheel, the wheels are numbered 1-4, and you do each chosen pose in order. I went a step further, colouring the wheels and gave them spinners to make it more game-like. While most of the books are in French, there is one in English as well as games like Yoga Bingo, which are mainly illustrated.

Throwback Thursday: The DIY Jacket

Image
This is a jacket I got as a present when I was 10. It was a plain white paper thin jacket that came with markers to decorate yourself. I'm not sure if it was a popular thing but I thought it was pretty cool!
