Rainy Summer Day Activity: Family Game Night

I really liked this idea, not just because it combined crafting and playing games but because it was the kid's idea.  One rainy day the kids were trying to decide whether to play a board game or make a craft so they combined both activities.
We had a lot of boxes in the recycling this week so the kids had their choice of material and size for their game boards. Little man went with a standard board size while Little Miss went with an over sized board, sorry castle.
Little Man designed a Pac-Man inspired game. It had ghosts, points and lives. I thought it was very well thought out and more complex than your run of the mill board game.
Little Miss had a castle designed to be a snakes and ladders with vines going up the board acting as both the snake and the ladder, if a player landed on the space they had to move either up the board or back down.

The board game pieces were also made by them, Little Man made his out of cardboard in the shape of Pac-Man to match the theme of his game. Little Miss made a Queen, King, Princess and Prince using little peg dolls to match the theme of her game.
This was a fun activity, I liked how their creativity and personality was apparent in each of their games. We took the afternoon to make the games and had a games night after supper, trying each of the games for a family game night.
