Pirate Treasure Hunt

This was the craft idea that got me back on the blog. During quarantine, Fridays are theme days at our house. We take a break from school work and do something fun. I had the idea of doing a pirate scavenger hunt. I remembered doing one for little man when he was younger but couldn't remember what we had done. I looked up my pirate post from a few years ago. It gave me inspiration to create a fun treasure hunt for the kids. I made treasure boxes filled with pirate crafts.
Material:
Kleenex box
Brown paper (craft paper or construction paper)
White paper
Paper towel rolls for swords and spy glass
Felt (2 large pieces for the big hat and 2 small pieces for one doll hat)
Pirate stickers for decorating
Markers for decorating the pirate hats (fabric markers or paint markers)
Glue gun

Directions:

Treasure map:
Tear the edges of the white paper one piece for the treasure map and one piece for a craft
Draw the treasure map on one page and leave the other blank
In a sink or a large bowl combine 2 cups of boiling water and 2 tea bags
Put the treasure map and the extra page in the tea, leave for about 2 minutes
Gently take the pages out of the tea and dry on a flat surface or on a drying rack

Treasure box:
cover the Kleenex box with the kraft paper or brown construction paper, leave the top open for the treasure
Decorate to look like a treasure box

Pirate hats:
Cut the two large pieces of felt into the shape of a pirate hat, hot glue the seams
Cut the small pieces of felt into the shape of a pirate hat, hot glue the seams

In the treasure box I added some pirate stickers for the kids crafts, the paper towel tubes for the sword and spy glass

When the kids followed the treasure map they found a treasure trove of pirate crafts.

Treasure Box Crafts:
Pirate hat to decorate
Pirate hat for doll (stuffy) to decorate
Decorate your own sword
Decorate your own spy glass
Make your own treasure map

We had a fun treasure hunt and the kids did the crafts outside. They dressed up as pirates with their new pirate hats and made their own treasure maps which I had to follow to find where they were hiding.

Happy crafting mateys!
