Wicked Cute

It's October! Halloween month! Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holidays, I love decorating for Halloween and the cozy spooky feeling of the season.  Over the years I have shared many Halloween craft ideas. This year I thought I would go over some of my favorite Halloween crafts that we have made over the years. The first one is Halloween Magnets . We still have some of these magnets, the little vampire guy magnet lives on our fridge year round.  I remember these magnets being a lot of fun when the kids were at the age to play in the kitchen while I was preparing supper. This craft adds a cozy fall feeling to the kitchen and since it is interactive, the scene is everchanging and a  This Halloween  photo booth  idea is a classic activity, it works for parties but also it's fun to do at home on a spooky Halloween night with the family. We made most of the props ourselves, combined with some costume accessories we had a lot of  picture op...

Twinsies Two

Image
Two years ago I shared a post about Little Miss liking to match her dolls, not much has changed in two years except that now she likes to match her stuffies. I have used the idea that I posted in Twinsies a few times since I posted it in September 2020. For these matching outfits I used a dress that my sister-in-law bought Little Miss as a vacation present this summer. Unfortunately, the dress was too small on top but fit perfectly as a skirt. It just so happened that the top of the dress fit Little Misses favorite unicorn. My Mom made the skirt happen. She is a much more skilled seamstress than I am, it took her about 15 minutes to cut and sew the skirt. She used some of the material from the top to make a wide band and added some elastic. We left the top as is, it was a perfect fit for the unicorn. I was happy that we were able to use the dress after all, it is a great vibrant tie-dye pattern. It has become one of Little Misses favorite skirts this su...

Book Review: Making a Meal for a Fairy

Image
This summer we borrowed a great book from our local library, Making a Meal for a Fairy  by Ruth Owen. It is a cookbook to make a meal: drink, appetizer, main meal and dessert fit for a fairy. This is one in a series of recipe books for imaginary creatures. Being a fan of fairies and enchanted stories, I loved this idea. We tried two of the recipes in this book. I changed them up a bit to fit our tastes and the ingredients that we had on hand but they gave us some great inspiration. The recipes we tried were the Fairydust Frappe and Fairy Garden Bread.  We started with the Fairydust Frappe. We changed it up a bit by using what we had on  hand. The substutions we made were: ice cream for the condensed milk and we omitted the whipped cream. Our Fairudust Frappes turned out to be delicious, fit for a fairy for sure. The second recipe we tried was the Fairy Garden Bread. This is the recipe that I changed the most. I decided to ma...

Rainy Summer Day Activity: Family Game Night

Image
I really liked this idea, not just because it combined crafting and playing games but because it was the kid's idea.  One rainy day the kids were trying to decide whether to play a board game or make a craft so they combined both activities. We had a lot of boxes in the recycling this week so the kids had their choice of material and size for their game boards. Little man went with a standard board size while Little Miss went with an over sized board, sorry castle.  Little Man designed a Pac-Man inspired game. It had ghosts, points and lives. I thought it was very well thought out and more complex than your run of the mill board game. Little Miss had a castle designed to be a snakes and ladders with vines going up the board acting as both the snake and the ladder, if a player landed on the space they had to move either up the board or back down.  The board game pieces were also made by them, Little Man made his out of cardboard in the shape of Pac-...

Fairy Garden Birthday Activity

Image
This is a craft from our latest birthday party. Little Misses 5th birthday is this month and she asked for a 'very' (fairy) birthday party. We hoped for good weather and planned to have it outside. The craft that I knew I wanted to do with the kids was making a fairy garden.  I bought metal flower pots, artificial flowers, flower foam and animal clips. I bought everything but the fairies at the Dollarstore, I might have gone a little overboard. I also gave the kids butterfly stickers and butterfly magnets to decorate the flower pots.  What you need: Metal flower pots, one large and one smaller one for each guest Artificial flowers and greenery Dried moss  Mini pin wheels Flower foam Clip-on birds, frogs or insects Garden fairies, one for each guest Hot glue  What to do: Cut the foam to fit in each of the smaller metal pots.  Glue the moss on the flower foam, Pat down to cover the foam. Unpack and separate all the flowers and greenery. Arrange the flowers ...

Super Mario Party

Image
For Little Misses 4th birthday she wanted a Mario themed birthday party, we'll she wanted a Princess Peach birthday party but she was alright with adding Mario and Luigi. I bought some decorations but I made a Super Mario obstacle course, we even played the theme song while we went through the obstacle course. It was like being inside a video game.  I also made Mario themed cupcakes and snacks. Super Mario themed cupcakes These were fun to make and with some fondant it is easy to make them look like recognizable Super Mario characters.  What you need: Cupcakes (the birthday person's favorite kind) Icing White Fondant (I use white fondant and add food colouring to make the coulours I need but you can also buy already coloured fondant, it's not as messy)  Food Colouring What to do: Frost the cupcakes with the regular icing. Kneed your fondant so it is easier to work with (like playdough.)  Separate the fondant into sections for however many colours you need. I did whit...

DIY Price is Right Games

Image
Hubby and the kids love watching the Price is Right. For his birthday this year we decided to make him homemade versions of his favorite games. We decided to make Cliffhanger and Plinko, the best  games! Plinko What you need: Shoe box Thumbtacks  Bottle cap Duct tape  Marker What to do: Lift the lid of the shoebox up so that it forms a gentle slope. I found it best to have one of the kids test raw bottlecap to see how fast it would fall, you don't want to to fly through the maze but you don't want it to get stuck in the maze either. Once you have found the best angle secure the lid in place using the duct tape. Now it is time to measure out the maze, use a pencil to mark the placement of the thumbtacks. First, make sure to measure the width of the bottle cap you will be using leaving a little space to move around or else it won't work, the Bottle cap will simply fall off the game without going through the thumbtack maze. Measure out 7 vertical line...
