Our Very Own Yes Day

Our mega 'the floor is lava' obstacle course

This past Family Day I decided to try having our very own Yes Day. The idea came from the book and the recently released Jennifer Garner movie of the same name. During this time where everything is uncertain and the kids don't have much control over anything, they are doing so well at rolling with the punches.  I thought this would be a good way for them to have some control and let us do something different as a family.

In preparation for Yes Day we came up with the idea of having two Yes Days back to back. The first Yes Day was the parents Yes Day! Everything we asked them to do, they had to say Yes! No, but Mom, no just a sec, no I'll do it later, just yes! It was a good day. When we first mentioned the parents yes day little man said "we have to have some ground rules!" We set up some ground rules for both Yes Days beforehand.

Parents Yes Day Ground Rules:

  1. Not a whole day of chores

Kids Yes Day Ground Rules:

  1. Time: from waking up until 6:00 (the next day is a school day after all)
  2. Only one take out meal
  3. Nothing that costs more than $20.00 (especially on video games)
My View on Parents Yes Day:
We talked a big game about all the things we would make them do but in the end I got some extra help making lunch and dessert and doing the dishes and they played outside together without arguing.

Little Man's View on Parent's Yes Day:
I was relieved that the parents did not make me do too much.
I thought that they would make me do a lot of chores phew.

My View on Kids Yes Day:
Our Yes Day activities included McDonald's breakfast, having tablet time, eating two desserts after lunch, playing the floor is lava twice with large obstacle courses both on the main floor and upstairs and watching Youtube videos as a family before bed. It wasn't anything over the top, it was just whatever they wanted to do and it was exactly enough for them.

Little Man's View on Kid's Yes Day:
Best day ever! It was so cool that my mom let me do
everything I wanted.
