Minecraft Birthday Party

Little Miss turned 9 this year! Each year the kids choose theor theme and I run with it! This year she asked for a minecraft party, so far, minecraft is the only theme that my kids have shared. So I wanted to think up some activities that were different than Little Man had at his birthday.
We decided to go for a real life minecraft adventure. We thought it would be fun to paint boxes to look like grass blocks and have the kids build their own houses etc.  I also had big plans of the kids making their own masks and weapons. We did that for Little Man's minecraft birthday party a few years ago but this time I got too caught up with painting boxes, oh so many boxes! Instead of making them, I found these inflatable minecraft weapons, so each kid had one as well as a choice of felt masks to create their character.
If I were to do this again, I would make more creepers. We only had one and the kids at the birthday party all wanted to play with it.
This would be a good activity for summer, let them decide what other characters or bricks they want to paint. We have used these boxes throughout the summer and when we're done with them they can be recycled.

Pirate Loot

Pirate hat treasure box and gold coins Surprise your little pirates with these easy to make pirate accessories. Time: about 15 minutes Cost: under $5.00 Material: 2 pieces of felt Needle and thread Fabric paint Yellow foam sheet Empty baby wipes container (the plastic ones that come for free in the big boxes of wipes) Brown and yellow construction paper Tape Scissors Directions: Pirate hat: Place one piece of felt on top of the other. Cut out the shape of a pirate hat. Sew each end of the hat. Using the fabric paint draw stitch marks and a skull and cross bones in the middle Treasure box and treasure Measure the brown construction paper against the baby wipes container. Cut out pieces to cover all sides. Tape the paper to the container.  Using the yellow construction paper make decorations for the treasure box including a lock and hinges. Using the yellow foam sheet cut out circles for gold coins.

DIY Minecraft Nerf Gun Target

We have been having fun with nerf guns in the backyard this summer. To change it up  from Nerf Gun battles we decided to make some targets to practice on. Materials: Cardboard box Paint pens  Duct tape  Measure the targets, one big circle in the middle, four smaller circles around the middle target. Cut out the circles, measure about a 1/2" from the edge and cut the contour of the small circles. Measure 1" on the center circle and cut the contour. Draw a character on each target. We chose a creeper for the middle target and pigs for the smaller targets. Place the target in their perspective circles, measure twine to hang each target in place. Duct tape the twine to the target and the targets to the support. Tape all the shapes to their respective openings. Add point value for each shape.  It's  time for target practice! Happy crafting!
