Blogmas Day 1: Up For a Challenge

Alright, so there's this thing called Blogmas. You post once a day from December 1st to 24th, think advent calendar in blog form. This is very much up my alley, I love advent calendar days, I have made so many over the year for the kids. I also love a good challenge. Since 2012 I have participated in Nanowrimo (national novel writing month) where participants attempt to write a 50,000 (the approx. length of a novel) words in a month. I just participated for my 9th year. I have only reached the goal of 50,000 words once but I like the challenge of writing as much as I can. 

I am surprised at myself that I have never participated in Blogmas which is surprising since I've had this blog since 2013.  I'm going to give it a try this year. It might turn I to my Nanowrimo tries where I do the most that I can but it could also turn  I to the time that I actually finished Nanowrimo.

A key to successfully participating in Nanowrimo is planning. Make the outline of your novel, some  use the month of October to prepare their outline. I am approaching Blogmas in the same way. I've come up with the topics (or most of the projects) that I want to blog.

Parents with young kids might know Tasty Time with Ze Fronk on Disney Junior. My little one, I've said before, sees something on TV and wants to make it asap. DIY Minecraft Nerf Gun Target

We have been having fun with nerf guns in the backyard this summer. To change it up  from Nerf Gun battles we decided to make some targets to practice on. Materials: Cardboard box Paint pens  Duct tape  Measure the targets, one big circle in the middle, four smaller circles around the middle target. Cut out the circles, measure about a 1/2" from the edge and cut the contour of the small circles. Measure 1" on the center circle and cut the contour. Draw a character on each target. We chose a creeper for the middle target and pigs for the smaller targets. Place the target in their perspective circles, measure twine to hang each target in place. Duct tape the twine to the target and the targets to the support. Tape all the shapes to their respective openings. Add point value for each shape.  It's  time for target practice! Happy crafting!

Pom-pom Yoga Games

There are so many great yoga game ideas for kids out there, this is one that I found that is good for all age groups. The original idea was picking up the pom-poms with your toes only but I found that you can make many variations as you go. Ask the kids for ideas as you're playing as well it's fun to see what they will think of. Toe-ga Empty a bag of pom-poms on the floor. Sit in a circle around the pom-poms. Each player sits back, hands on the floor, knees bent. Place an empty bowl near each player's feet. 123 go, using only their toes each player has to put as many pom-poms in their bowl as they can. Yoga pose pom-pom pick up Empty a bag of pom-poms on the floor. Standing or sitting in a circle choose a yoga pose that everyone can do. While in the pose each player has to place as many pom-poms in their bowls as they can.  Some poses to try: Downward dog, use your hands to pick up the pom-poms.  Tree pose use your toes to pick up the pom-poms.
