New Years Eve Crafts

For a New Years craft last year we made a poster  of our year in seasons using family pictures taken throughout the year. This year we made accessories to get all decked out for the New Year!


Material:
  • Construction paper
  • Markers
  • Stickers and sparkles 
  • White glue
  • Jingle bell garland 
  • Pipe cleaners


Directions:
  1. Pipe cleaner glasses: Choose 6 pipe cleaners, for each pair of glasses you want to make. Shape the numbers of the up coming year and place them side by side. Cut a piece of pipe cleaner into 4. Using the small pieces of pipe cleaner attach all the numbers together. Cut the last pipe cleaner in 2 and attach one piece to either side of the year. Curve the pipe cleaner so that the pipe cleaner glasses will sit on your ears.
  2. Party hats: Choose the colour of construction paper for your hats, fold the paper in a cone shape, trim the bottom to make it the size you want. Lay the paper flat and decorate with markers and stickers. Use the white glue to write your initials or the year and sprinkle the sparkles over the glue before it dries. When the glues is dry fold the paper into the shape of a cone and staple it in place. Cut a piece of string to size and staple string to the sides.

DIY Minecraft Nerf Gun Target

We have been having fun with nerf guns in the backyard this summer. To change it up  from Nerf Gun battles we decided to make some targets to practice on. Materials: Cardboard box Paint pens  Duct tape  Measure the targets, one big circle in the middle, four smaller circles around the middle target. Cut out the circles, measure about a 1/2" from the edge and cut the contour of the small circles. Measure 1" on the center circle and cut the contour. Draw a character on each target. We chose a creeper for the middle target and pigs for the smaller targets. Place the target in their perspective circles, measure twine to hang each target in place. Duct tape the twine to the target and the targets to the support. Tape all the shapes to their respective openings. Add point value for each shape.  It's  time for target practice! Happy crafting!

Pom-pom Yoga Games

There are so many great yoga game ideas for kids out there, this is one that I found that is good for all age groups. The original idea was picking up the pom-poms with your toes only but I found that you can make many variations as you go. Ask the kids for ideas as you're playing as well it's fun to see what they will think of. Toe-ga Empty a bag of pom-poms on the floor. Sit in a circle around the pom-poms. Each player sits back, hands on the floor, knees bent. Place an empty bowl near each player's feet. 123 go, using only their toes each player has to put as many pom-poms in their bowl as they can. Yoga pose pom-pom pick up Empty a bag of pom-poms on the floor. Standing or sitting in a circle choose a yoga pose that everyone can do. While in the pose each player has to place as many pom-poms in their bowls as they can.  Some poses to try: Downward dog, use your hands to pick up the pom-poms.  Tree pose use your toes to pick up the pom-poms.
